The old ways are always the best.
The second Severn Crossing gets a lot of coverage on Flickr, but when
originally complete in 1966 this, the orginal Seven Bridge, was one
of the most technologically advanced in the world. There is an
elegance to this suspension bridge that the new concrete and
cable-stayed second crossing lacks.
Slender and elegant it may be, but the foreshore beneath is a very muddy and messy sort of place though strangely bejewelled by hundreds of pure white lumps of alabaster fallen from the eroding outcrop of Aust Cliff from which the bridge vaults.
