Rick Ross was the apparent target of a drive-by shooting early this morning in Florida, The Huffington Post reports. Fort Lauderdale police have confirmed that Ross (real name: William Roberts) was riding in a Rolls Royce that went out control and slammed into an apartment building around 5 a.m. No one was injured.
According to NBC6-Miami, witnesses saw another vehicle fire on the Rolls Royce, and the car crashed into the building while trying to evade gunfire. Witnesses initially said they heard as many as 20 shots fired, and the two passengers in the Rolls Royce originally asked police to withhold their names out of concern for their safety.
Ross may have been celebrating his 37th birthday, which is today, at the nearby Floridian restaurant, according to reports. The Miami Herald reports that the restaurant was also hit with gunfire, and that Ross spoke to investigators at the eatery.
The apparent shooting attempt against Ross follows gang threats from the Black Disciples, who were upset with Ross' references to gang leader Larry Hoover in his track "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Last December, Ross cancelled two North Carolina dates, and later nixed the remainder of the tour, after receiving death threats in various YouTube videos from the Black Disciples. He downplayed any threatsas reasons for the canceled dates, instead pointing to a promoter who wasn't "handling his business."
